(Web Desk): Severe fog across Pakistan’s plains disrupts flights and forces closure of multiple motorways as authorities issue safety advisories and urge cautious travel.

Dense fog across the country’s plain areas has disrupted flights and forced motorway closures in Punjab and Sindh, with authorities restricting traffic to prevent accidents during low visibility conditions.

The dense fog has reduced visibility to dangerous levels, prompting emergency measures across Punjab, Sindh, and adjoining regions.

According to the Motorway Police, several key routes have been temporarily closed due to poor visibility. The M-1 motorway remains closed from Peshawar to Rashakai, while the M-3 is shut between Faisalabad and Darkhana. Officials also confirmed closures on the M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Sher Shah and the M-5 from Rohri to Sher Shah.

Additional closures include the M-11 motorway from Lahore to Sambrial and the M-14 from Kot Balian to Isa Khel. Authorities stated that these steps were necessary to prevent serious accidents amid persistent foggy conditions.

Flight operations in several cities have also been affected, as low visibility disrupted schedules and caused delays at major airports. Aviation authorities continue to monitor weather conditions closely to resume normal operations safely.

Motorway Police advised motorists to avoid unnecessary travel, especially during night and early morning hours when fog intensifies. Drivers have been urged to travel between 10am and 6pm, maintain lane discipline, reduce speed, and use fog lights and low-beam headlights.

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) emphasized that fog conditions may worsen suddenly during the winter season. Commuters were advised to use alternative routes such as GT Road where possible and stay updated through official advisories.

For real-time traffic updates, route guidance, or emergency assistance, motorists can contact the Motorway Police helpline at 130. Authorities reiterated that public cooperation is essential to ensure safety until visibility improves and routes are reopened.
