Heatwave intensifies as Dadu records scorching 48°C

Extreme hot and dry weather continues to affect most parts of Pakistan, with temperatures reaching dangerous levels in several cities, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). Dadu recorded the highest temperature in the country at 48°C, making it one of the hottest locations during the ongoing heatwave.

The PMD said temperatures also climbed to 47°C in Jacobabad and Sibi. Several districts of Punjab, including Jhang, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Faisalabad, and Dera Ghazi Khan, recorded temperatures of 45°C. In Lahore, the maximum temperature reached 43°C, while Peshawar recorded 42°C and Islamabad registered 41°C.

Karachi recorded a temperature of 36°C. However, due to humidity and prevailing weather conditions, the “feel-like” temperature in the city reached 45°C, making conditions significantly more uncomfortable for residents.

Earlier, the PMD issued a heatwave alert for the period from June 7 to June 12, 2026. The department warned that Sindh and Balochistan are likely to experience severe heatwave conditions, while Punjab is expected to face moderate to intense heat. Weather experts said prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures could increase health risks, especially for children, elderly people, and outdoor workers.

The PMD has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight, stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, and drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration and heat-related illnesses. Authorities continue to monitor the weather situation as high temperatures persist in many parts of the country.
