The Pakistan Motorway Police suspended vehicle movement on the M-5 between Sher Shah and Zahir Pir and the M-1 section from Peshawar to Rashakai due to dangerously low visibility. Officials said the decision was taken to prevent accidents as dense fog reduced sight distance to near zero in several areas.
As weather conditions showed slight improvement, the M-1 stretch from Rashakai to Burhan was reopened, while traffic between Peshawar and Islamabad was also restored for all types of vehicles. However, authorities confirmed that fog continues to affect visibility on parts of the National Highway, especially in Basti Malook, Lodhran and Bahawalpur.

Motorway Police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed said the closures were aimed at protecting lives and property, adding that fog-related accidents usually occur due to overspeeding and poor lane discipline. Drivers were strictly warned against unsafe overtaking and sudden lane changes during foggy conditions.
Travelers have been advised to avoid unnecessary journeys and plan their travel during safer hours, which are considered to be between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm when visibility is relatively better. Motorists have also been urged to use fog lights, maintain safe distances, and reduce speed.
For real-time guidance and emergencies, citizens were advised to contact the Motorway Police helpline at 130.
