(Web Desk): The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rains in Sindh and eastern and southern Balochistan between August 27-29.

The PMD has forecast that the 8th spell of monsoon will enter the country next week, bringing heavy rains to Sindh and Balochistan.

The forecast suggests that Karachi and the rest of Sindh are expected to get heavy rain from August 27, while showers with gaps will occur in Mithi, Tharparkar, Umerkot, and Mirpurkhas until August 26. Likewise, Barkhan, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibbi, Zhob, Kalat, and Khuzdar districts of Balochistan are predicted to get rain spells during the same time.

The Met Office reported that fresh monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are moving into the upper regions of the country with the possibility of heavy showers. Previously, the PMD had also predicted torrential rain with wind and thunderstorms in the upper and central regions from August 23 to 27.

In the meantime, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert against urban flooding in low-lying areas of Karachi and Hyderabad on August 24-28 due to heavy rain. The spokesperson of NDMA advised people to exercise caution, not to travel on waterlogged roads, and keep a distance from electric poles and exposed wires during the rains.

Authorities have also been instructed to stay on the highest alert and take precautionary steps to address any emergency.

It should be noted that at least 15 persons were killed in rain-related accidents in Karachi earlier this week, as the metropolis also experienced acute urban flooding, again laying bare its weak infrastructure.
