LAHORE: (Web Desk) The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning about a severe heatwave expected to impact several parts of the country

The heatwave is expected to hit various parts of the country including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan.

According to the forecast issued by the Met office, the temperature across the Sindh is likely to reach at 48 degrees Celsius.

A high-pressure system forming over the upper atmosphere from Sunday is expected to bring extreme heat to southern Pakistan — including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan — lasting through April 18.

Daytime temperatures in these regions are forecast to rise 6 to 8°C above normal. Central and northern areas — such as Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan — will also experience above-normal temperatures, with highs 4 to 6°C above average.

Night-time temperatures are expected to remain unusually warm across much of the country.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned of possible dust and windstorms due to the heat. Authorities urge people, especially children, the elderly, and women, to avoid direct sunlight, stay indoors during peak hours, and keep hydrated.

Experts link the early onset of extreme heat in South Asia to climate change, noting that over a billion people in the region face increasing risks from heat-related effects.
