Heavy rains in Sindh, Meteorological Department issues alert

KARACHI (Web Desk): The Meteorological Department Pakistan (PMD) has predicted heavy rain across Sindh today, which is likely to inundate low-lying areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, an alert has been issued in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Thatta and Badin in view of heavy rains. During the last 24 hours, heavy rains have been recorded in various cities of Sindh. Mithi recorded the highest rainfall of 53 mm while Tharparkar recorded 45 mm. Nawabshah recorded 49 mm and Hyderabad recorded 43 mm. Similarly, Chhor recorded 37 mm, Tando Jam 26 mm and Mirpurkhas 24 mm.

Karachi also witnessed heavy rain. Intermittent showers continued in different parts of the city, with Gulshan-e-Hadeed recording the highest rainfall of 17 mm. Faisal Base received 12 mm, University Road received 11 mm, and the airport received 9 mm. Gadap, Korangi, DHA and North Karachi received 8 mm, Keamari received 6 mm, and Surjani and Jinnah Terminal received 5 mm.

There is a chance of urban flooding in Karachi as well. Sources reveal that the low-pressure system has intensified. At this time, a powerful monsoon system is affecting various areas of Sindh. The low-pressure system is currently over Kutch, which will move northwest in the next 12 to 18 hours, impacting Karachi and other districts of Sindh.

The Meteorological Department has instructed citizens to exercise caution during rain, avoid passing through low-lying areas, and keep relevant agencies on alert so that any emergency situation can be dealt with.
