(Web Desk): Punjab has approved a Rs4 billion subsidy to expand the Maryam Nawaz Rashan Card Programme, offering subsidized essential goods to thousands of low-income families.

The Punjab government has approved a subsidy of Rs4 billion for the Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Rashan Card Programme, a major initiative aimed at reducing the financial burden on low-income families across the province. According to official sources, the subsidy will support thousands of households struggling with rising costs of essential commodities.

The Punjab Social Welfare Department has so far collected data from 9498 citizens for the Rashan Card Programme. Out of these, applications of 3339 citizens have been flagged for re-evaluation due to incomplete information or verification issues. Meanwhile, a total of 6159 Rashan Cards have already been issued to deserving families who successfully met the eligibility criteria.

The Rashan Card enables selected families to purchase essential food items at subsidized rates, ensuring access to affordable flour, sugar, ghee, pulses, and other daily-use commodities. Officials said the programme is designed to offer immediate assistance to households facing economic pressure, especially those affected by inflation and reduced purchasing power.

Registration and attestation processes for the programme are still ongoing across Punjab. Local administration units and welfare officers are assisting applicants to ensure transparent distribution and timely issuance of the cards. Authorities stated that the initiative reflects the provincial government’s commitment to social welfare, poverty alleviation, and targeted economic relief.
