(Web Desk): Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz launched Himmat Cards and announced major upgrades to Special Education Centres to improve support and services for special children across Punjab.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has unveiled a major welfare initiative for differently abled children, announcing the launch of Himmat Cards and a complete overhaul of Special Education Centres across the province. The move aims to give special students better support, easier access to services, and stronger opportunities for independent futures.

Speaking at the inauguration of the School Meal Program and a new Centre of Excellence in Lahore, the Chief Minister said Punjab was “investing in special children, not just looking after them.” She confirmed that a Centre of Excellence for Special Students will be established in every district, with 28 districts already having fully developed facilities.

Maryam Nawaz also revealed that Punjab’s first government-run autism school is set to open soon. Thousands of applications have already been received, and she said the school will meet global standards for autism care.

As part of the province-wide revamp, 313 special education institutions are being upgraded with physiotherapy units, speech therapy rooms, digital learning labs, and modern teaching tools. More than 40,000 special children have undergone health screening, and around 30,000 have received treatment — many regaining hearing due to timely medical support.
