The Punjab Government has introduced a free public transport Punjab initiative, allowing citizens to travel without fares on government-run buses across the province during the ongoing energy crisis.
According to an official notification issued by the Punjab Transport Company, the free travel policy Punjab 2026 has been implemented with immediate effect from April 3, 2026, for a period of 30 days, with a possibility of extension.
Free Travel on Electric Buses Across Punjab
Under the policy, all Electric Vehicle (EV) buses operating throughout Punjab will provide free bus service Punjab to the public. The initiative aims to ease the financial burden on commuters affected by rising energy costs.
ID Card Mandatory for Free Travel
Authorities have made it compulsory for passengers to carry a valid national identity card to access the free transport facility. Passengers without proper identification may face inconvenience during travel.

Special Provision for Students
Students are also included in the relief measure. However, they must present a valid student identification card to benefit from the free travel service.
Government’s Response to Energy Crisis

Officials stated that the initiative will significantly reduce daily commuting expenses and support low-income groups as well as students.
