Authorities in Lahore have announced a complete ban on kite flying after 12:00 am on the final day of Basant 2026, intensifying safety measures across the city to prevent accidents and maintain law and order.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran, in an official statement, warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone violating the midnight kite-flying ban. He said law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring Basant celebrations to ensure compliance with the approved code of conduct.
According to the DIG, drone cameras are being used across Lahore to monitor kite flying activities. So far, over 1,700 cases have been registered against individuals involved in illegal kite flying during the festival.

Police have been directed to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against aerial firing and the use of chemical or metal kite strings, which pose serious risks to human life. To ensure public safety, more than 10,000 police personnel have been deployed throughout the city.
Authorities have also issued strict safety instructions for motorcyclists, directing them to use protective safety guards. Citizens have been urged to fly kites only during permitted hours and to use government-approved kites and strings to avoid injuries and fatalities.
It is noteworthy that Basant celebrations in Lahore are being held from February 6 to February 8, 2026. The Punjab government, after a long hiatus, allowed the festival under a regulated framework, prioritizing citizen safety and legal compliance.
Officials emphasized that these restrictions aim not only to protect lives and property but also to ensure that Basant is celebrated in a safe, festive, and responsible environment.
