ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Islamabad schools observe four-day workweek as authorities introduce new schedule under austerity and fuel conservation measures.

According to the official notification issued under the Ministry of Federal Education, the new schedule is part of the government’s efforts to reduce expenses and conserve fuel. The decision will apply with immediate effect until further notice.

Under this plan, private educational institutions in the Islamabad Capital Territory will conduct on-campus academic activities from Monday to Thursday. Fridays will remain off, marking a shift in the weekly routine.

The move comes alongside similar arrangements in Punjab, where educational institutions are also observing Friday as a weekly holiday. Both government and private schools in Punjab are operating from Monday to Thursday.

Schools across Punjab reopened on April 1 after a 22-day closure from March 10 to March 31. The closure was introduced as part of broader measures aimed at saving fuel during a period of rising global oil prices.

During the closure, educational institutions continued academic activities through online classes, while examinations were conducted as per schedule to avoid disruption in students’ progress.

As per the updated timetable in Punjab, school hours from Monday to Thursday are set from 8am to 1:30pm. Double-shift schools will operate with the first shift from 8am to 12:30pm and the second shift from 1:00pm to 5:30pm.

In Sindh, educational institutions have also resumed physical classes. The provincial government announced that schools, colleges, and universities reopened on April 1, replacing online learning with in-person teaching.

Sindh has also set a two-day weekend, with educational institutions remaining closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Officials confirmed that the new academic schedule has been implemented across the province.
