ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Budget 2026-27 likely to be presented on June 12 as government finalizes schedule after coalition talks.

The federal government will present the Budget 2026-27 in the National Assembly on June 12, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry confirmed on Tuesday. He said Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will present the budget before the lower house of Parliament.

The budget schedule has been revised several times. It was first planned for June 5, then moved to June 10, and now finally set for June 12 after consultations with coalition partners. Sources said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), a key ally in the coalition government, has assured support for the budget’s approval.

A high-level meeting between a PPP delegation led by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Aiwan-e-Sadr resulted in broad agreement on most budget proposals. However, officials said a few pending issues will be resolved through further talks at the technical level.

During the meeting, President Zardari stressed the need to prioritise public welfare, provincial rights, and economic stability in the upcoming fiscal plan. He also called for development strategies focused on citizens’ needs. Sources added that earlier delays in the budget schedule were due to objections from coalition partners, which required further negotiations before final approval.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has said the government is working to build consensus with both allies and international stakeholders, including the IMF. He added that the budget aims to strengthen the tax system, broaden the tax base, and improve enforcement while avoiding new taxes where possible.

He further stated that the government is trying to balance fiscal discipline with political agreement and economic stability. Under constitutional requirements, the budget must be approved by June 30 so it can come into effect from July 1. According to official documents, the government has proposed a development budget of over Rs1.1 trillion for the fiscal year 2026-27, covering multiple sectors.
