Banks to remain closed on January 1

LAHORE (Web Desk): Banks will stay closed for public dealings on January 1 as the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) declares a nationwide bank holiday, but confirms staff attendance.

The State Bank of Pakistan has announced a bank holiday across the country on January 1, 2026. On this day, banks will not provide services to the public.

According to the central bank, all banks and financial institutions will remain closed for customer dealings on the first day of the New Year. This means no counter services, cash transactions, or routine public banking.

The announcement also applies to development finance institutions and microfinance banks. These institutions will also remain shut for public dealings on January 1.

However, the SBP made it clear that the holiday is only for customers. Employees of banks, DFIs, and MFBs will attend their offices as usual and continue internal work.
