LAHORE (Web Desk): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is among five Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leaders who declared proclaimed offenders by Anti-Terrorism Court after skipping repeated hearings in November 26 protest cases.

The decision came after they repeatedly failed to appear before the court in cases linked to the November 26 protest. The other declared offenders include provincial minister Meena Khan Afridi, Shafiullah Jan, Iqbal Afridi and Amjad Ali. The court noted that all the accused ignored multiple summons despite clear directions to attend the hearings.

The case was heard by ATC Judge Abu Al-Hasanat Muhammad Zulqarnain. On the court’s orders, notices were published in newspapers to officially declare the accused as proclaimed offenders.

According to the proclamation notice, the accused have been given 30 days to appear before the court. If they fail to do so, stricter legal action will follow.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Islamabad told the court that Sohail Afridi is nominated in terrorism-related cases and has continuously avoided court appearances. The CTD added that non-bailable arrest warrants issued against the accused could not be executed.

Following this, the court ordered authorities to paste proclamation notices outside the residences of Sohail Afridi, Meena Khan Afridi and Dr Amjad. The CTD also informed the court that two terrorism cases are registered against the KP chief minister in Islamabad.

Earlier, Sohail Afridi claimed that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice declined to meet him when he sought permission to meet the PTI founder. Sources said Afridi and his legal team later left the court after being informed that the meeting would not take place.
