The PTI may not be able to field any candidates in the elections because of its unresolved intra-party election case. Without an official symbol, the party cannot formally nominate contestants under its banner.
Even if PTI-backed candidates contest as independents and win, they will not be able to join PTI later under the new local government law. The law makes it mandatory for every elected councillor to join a political party within 30 days, or they risk losing their seat.
PTI’s internal election case has been pending with the Election Commission for the last 19 months. Insiders claim that the party’s legal team has shown little interest in resolving the issue, causing further delay in the decision.
Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court’s stay order has also halted the Election Commission’s hearing on the matter. This ongoing deadlock has left PTI’s participation in Punjab’s local polls uncertain.

Political analysts warn that if the case remains unresolved, PTI could be completely sidelined from the local government elections. They believe this development would have a deep impact on Punjab’s political landscape, where the party once held significant ground.
PTI’s absence from local elections could create a major political vacuum in Punjab, giving rivals a clear advantage. The situation also reflects the party’s internal disorganization and legal negligence, which may cost it vital grassroots influence. Unless resolved soon, this setback could weaken PTI’s structure at the local level.
