Earlier, 43 newly-elected members of the Senate were administered the oath at the maiden session of the Upper House.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar presided over the Senate session which began amid noisy slogans raised by the members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The foreign minister, as the presiding officer, administered the oath to the newly-elected senators including the six who emerged successful in the by-elections.
It is to be noted here that despite holding the Senate elections on April 2, the senate meeting could not be convened even after three days as per the constitutional binding.
However, the president called the first meeting of the Upper House on April 9 today.
The oath-taking of the new senators and the election of the Senate chairman and deputy chairman were held on the same day.
