Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, others acquitted in ECP protest case

LAHORE: (Suno News) A district and sessions court in Islamabad acquitted former prime minister Imran Khan, former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, former interior minister Sheikh Rashid and others in the case registered at Aabpara police station for protesting a verdict of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Judicial Magistrate Yasir Mehmood pronounced the reserved verdict, acquitting all the accused nominated in the case.

Sardar Masroof Advocate and Ansar Kayani present arguments in the court on behalf of PTI founder Imran Khan, Sheikh Rashid and others.

It is to be noted here that a case was registered against Imran Khan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Sheikh Rashid and others for protesting against a verdict of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in 2022.

The ECP verdict had disqualified Imran Khan from holding public office for five years.

On Tuesday, a district and sessions court in Islamabad adjourned former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi’s pleas against sentences in the Iddat case until July 3.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka heard the pleas. Zahid Bashir Dar and Murtaza Turi, lawyers for Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, appeared before the court.

Senior lawyer Salman Akram Raja also appeared before the court on behalf of Imran Khan and requested the court to adjourn the hearing until July 3.

He told the court that he had to appear before the Supreme Court in the reserved seats case of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

Judge Afzal Majoka asked Salman Raja to prepare his arguments by the next hearing.
