Islamabad (Suno News): The federal government is mulling over the names for the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) as incumbent CEC Raja is going to retire after two and half months.

As the incumbent Chief of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is going to hang up his robes after two and half months, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has sought names for the appointment of new chief election commissioner.

Sources revealed that former Chief of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa’s name was also included in the list.

Ex-CJP Isa is reportedly the top contender for the Chief Election Commissioner’s slot due to his acceptability to both the establishment and the current rulers. His expected appointment may spark intense backlash from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), potentially leading to protests.

The current Chief Election Commissioner s term will end in upcoming January, and his tenure has been marred by controversy, particularly regarding the February 8 elections. PTI Founder Imran Khan alleged that these elections aimed to steal PTI s mandate and bring the Sharif family to power.

A senior PTI leader, speaking on the condition of anonymity, warned that appointment of Qazi Faez Isa, who was perceived as biased, would create severe consequences. “We will resist the appointment and fight against people like Qazi Faez Isa till our last breath,” he added.
