LAHORE: (Suno News) A petition was filed before the District and Sessions Judge of Lahore to register a criminal case against Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for wearing Punjab Police uniform during a passing out parade on Thursday (April 25).

The petition was filed by Advocate Aftab Bajwa Under Sections 22A and 22B of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). The petition reads that according to the law, no person can wear police uniform, but the Chief Minister has violated the law.

The petition says a complaint was earlier submitted to the police station concerned to register, requesting the court order for the registration of a case against Maryam Nawaz.

Earlier today (April 25), in police uniform, Maryam addressed a passing out parade at Chung Police Training Centre in Lahore, and said that her government wanted to boost women’s strength in police by increasing their numbers to half in the force.

Maryam Nawaz said that it was a matter of pride to participate in the passing out parade, adding: “The lady cops who participated in the passing out parade are very alert. I am glad that Pakistan has so much talent."

She also said, “I have directed the IG Punjab that there are 7,000 fewer woman officers in police and their number should be increased. Time will come when the number of lady police officers will exceed 50 percent in the force.”

While highlighting women’s role in society, Maryam Nawaz said: “Women are very hardworking. They work like superhumans. They are mothers, daughters, sisters and professionals. No one can imagine how hard women work. I salute you all. I am glad that this time the police gave the sword of honour to a young woman. My sisters and my daughters, I am proud of you.”

The chief minister pointed out that the lady police constables had been trained in line with modern requirements, adding that she was glad to witness the professionalism of the lady police constables.

“After wearing the police uniform for the first time, I have realised that whether it is a police job or the CM’s oath, both are very responsible jobs. We make decisions in the Chief Minister’s Office, you implement them. You have a great responsibility,” she pointed out.

Earlier, clad in a police uniform herself, the chief minister inspected the parade where she was given a guard of honour. She also distributed prizes to the top performers from the police training centre. Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar was also present on the occasion.
