Punjab Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Bilal Akbar Khan met US Consul General Stetson Sanders, who arrived with a delegation, to discuss stronger bilateral cooperation.
The delegation included William Campbell, head of political and economic affairs, and economist Aamna Ines. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expand mutual collaboration.
Bilal Akbar Khan said Punjab has formally launched work to introduce a modern transport system across the province. He confirmed that electric buses will operate in all districts of Punjab.
In the first phase, 1100 electric buses will run in 42 cities. The minister said students are already receiving free travel on electric buses and metro services.
To reduce costs, the government will build green bus depots for charging electric buses. He said the electric bus project has created strong public enthusiasm.
Bilal Akbar Khan added that the Punjab chief minister has launched a motorbike scheme for students. More than 20,000 bikes have already been distributed in the first phase.
He said the Murree tourist glass train feasibility study is complete. Punjab is also preparing to launch its own airline service.

To tackle smog, the government has amended laws against smoke-emitting vehicles. Fitness certificates for vehicles have been made mandatory.
Work has also begun on new mass transit projects in Gujranwala and Faisalabad.
