Pakistan is experiencing a frustrating start to 2026 as internet users across the country continue to face severe speed and connectivity issues for more than 48 hours. The problem was confirmed by Nayatel, one of Pakistan’s leading internet service providers, through its official X (formerly Twitter) account.
According to Nayatel, customers are still encountering significantly reduced upload speeds, a problem that began over two days ago. The issue is widespread because Nayatel’s fiber backbone relies on PTCL, the primary internet backbone provider for Pakistan, meaning the slowdown is affecting multiple service providers.

Independent tests and reports indicate that PTCL users, as well as subscribers of mobile networks including Zong and Ufone, are also experiencing major disruptions. Social media and forums are flooded with complaints from users frustrated by interrupted work, online meetings, and streaming services.
So far, neither Nayatel nor PTCL has provided a clear timeline for when normal service will resume. The prolonged outage highlights Pakistan’s ongoing reliance on a single backbone provider, exposing vulnerabilities in the country’s internet infrastructure.

Experts suggest that users may continue to face slow speeds until a technical fix is implemented, and they recommend minimizing high-bandwidth activities during this period. The government and regulatory authorities are expected to follow up with official statements and updates from ISPs.
For now, millions of Pakistanis remain in the dark about when their internet will return to normal, making 2026’s online start particularly frustrating. Users are advised to keep monitoring official channels for updates.
