(Web Desk): In a landmark development for Pakistanis seeking overseas employment, Italy has officially allocated a quota of 10,500 job positions for Pakistani workers over the next three years, opening major avenues in Europe’s labor market.

The announcement, confirmed by the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, represents a significant step toward expanding international employment opportunities for skilled and semi-skilled Pakistani workers.

The quota was approved following concerted efforts by Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhary Salik Hussain, who formally requested the Italian government to allocate employment opportunities for Pakistani nationals. Under the agreement:

  • 3,500 Pakistani workers will travel to Italy annually.
  • 1,500 seasonal and 2,000 non-seasonal workers will be part of the annual allocation.
  • Remaining positions will be filled through other approved employment categories.

Sectors and Job Opportunities
The employment quota spans key sectors, providing opportunities for both skilled and semi-skilled workers:

  • Shipbreaking: Welders, technicians
  • Hospitality: Chefs, waiters, housekeepers
  • Healthcare: Nurses, medical technicians
  • Agriculture: Farming and crop cultivation roles

Officials highlighted that this move positions Italy as the first European country to allocate a formal job quota for Pakistani workers, marking a historic achievement in bilateral labor cooperation.

Government and Ministry Statements
Chaudhary Salik Hussain called the allocation a “milestone achievement” and said it reflects Pakistan’s commitment to creating dignified employment opportunities abroad. He added that the Pakistan-Italy Joint Working Group will hold its second meeting in Islamabad in February 2026 to streamline employment procedures, ensure compliance with labor standards, and strengthen bilateral cooperation.

A ministry spokesperson emphasized that the government of Pakistan is focused on providing Pakistani workers with safe, legal, and well-structured overseas employment, recognizing the critical role of overseas labor in bolstering the national economy. Plans are also underway to expand labor cooperation with other European countries, offering even more opportunities for Pakistani nationals in the near future.

This initiative is expected to benefit thousands of families in Pakistan, particularly those reliant on overseas employment for income, and demonstrates Pakistan’s growing influence in the international labor market.
