(Web Desk): Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban reached an interim understanding in Istanbul to prevent the use of Afghan soil for terrorism and to uphold the ceasefire agreement.

After six days of intensive negotiations in Istanbul, Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban have reached an interim mutual understanding, marking a cautious but meaningful step toward regional peace and stability. The talks, hosted by Türkiye and Qatar, focused on Pakistan’s core demand that Afghan soil must not be used for terrorism against Pakistan, particularly by groups such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).

The discussions, which appeared on the brink of collapse at several points, were extended following appeals from the host nations and the Afghan Taliban delegation. Ultimately, both sides agreed on a set of key principles to preserve and strengthen the Doha ceasefire agreement.

Under the new understanding, the Afghan Taliban have committed to taking clear, verifiable, and effective measures to prevent terrorist activities targeting Pakistan. A Joint Monitoring and Verification Mechanism will be established to ensure compliance and accountability. The next round of talks is scheduled to take place in Istanbul on November 6, where both sides will finalize implementation details.

Türkiye and Qatar commended the constructive approach of both delegations and reaffirmed their willingness to continue mediating to promote lasting peace and regional stability.

Pakistan’s delegation was praised for its firm, evidence-based, and professional stance, which reflected national resolve and diplomatic maturity. The interim understanding is being seen as a positive milestone for the people of both Pakistan and Afghanistan, as well as a hopeful sign for wider regional peace.

Pakistan reiterated that while it remains committed to peaceful dialogue, there will be no compromise on national sovereignty, security, or territorial integrity, reaffirming unity and preparedness against all internal and external threats.
