Officials said the meeting was aimed at boosting operational efficiency, upgrading metro stations and improving the travel experience for thousands of passengers who rely on the service daily. Both sides reviewed proposals for system modernization and discussed the possibility of extending the metro route to handle rising demand in the twin cities.
Naqvi emphasised that the metro is a crucial transport lifeline and must continuously evolve to match the region’s growing population. He highlighted the need for safer stations, smoother operations and modern commuter facilities.
A major decision from the meeting was the formation of a joint coordination committee that will supervise reforms and ensure timely implementation of planned upgrades. Officials also stressed the importance of expanding electric public transport to reduce pollution and enhance convenience.
Naqvi noted that Islamabad has launched electric buses for the first time and said both the fleet and routes will be expanded further. He added that the government aims to shift more commuters toward clean and efficient transport options.
