(Web Desk): Sindh government is set to launch Pakistan’s first government-run electric taxi service, including a dedicated fleet for women, by December 2025.

In a groundbreaking move towards sustainable urban transport, the Sindh government is accelerating plans to introduce Pakistan’s first-ever government-operated taxi service, featuring electric vehicles (EVs) by December 2025.

A high-level meeting chaired by Sindh’s Senior Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, was held on Monday in Karachi. Key officials including Transport Secretary Asad Zamin and Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Kanwal Nizam Bhutto attended to discuss project updates and implementation strategies.

Minister Memon emphasized that this initiative marks a significant milestone, aiming to provide citizens with modern, eco-friendly, and efficient transport options. “PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has shown keen interest in ensuring the public benefits from high-quality and environmentally sustainable services,” he said. Notably, the initial phase of the project will reserve a dedicated fleet of pink electric taxis exclusively for women, promoting safe and comfortable travel.

Sindh has already led the way in green transport with electric buses, the Pink Bus service for women, and electric scooter schemes for female students. The introduction of pink EV taxis for women adds another pioneering chapter to the province’s commitment to gender-inclusive and green mobility.

Further plans include deploying double-decker buses and expanding the electric bus fleet in Karachi. The government is also focusing on building EV charging stations and supporting infrastructure to sustain this eco-friendly transformation.

This ambitious project not only aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions but also promises to improve everyday commuting experiences for Karachi’s residents.
