In a major step towards accelerating industrial development in Punjab, the Special Economic Zone Authority (SEZA) Punjab has approved the expansion of three private-sector Special Economic Zones (SEZs), a move expected to bring significant investment and generate over 26,000 employment opportunities.
The announcement was made by Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, who chaired the 10th SEZA Punjab meeting held at the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) on Tuesday.
“These expansions will attract new industries in key sectors such as electronics, home appliances, food processing, and cement manufacturing,” Minister Hussain stated. He highlighted that the initiative aligns with Punjab’s broader industrial policy aimed at boosting local production, increasing exports, and creating thousands of jobs.
The high-level meeting reviewed an eight-point agenda, including multiple applications from private developers seeking SEZ status or expansion. After thorough evaluation, the approved cases were forwarded to the federal Board of Investment in Islamabad for final clearance.
In a bid to further streamline investor facilitation, the meeting also approved the formation of a dedicated sub-committee under SEZA Punjab. This body will be responsible for hearing investor appeals, resolving disputes, and ensuring transparency and efficiency in zone operations.
Officials noted that the expansion of SEZs will also enhance Punjab’s appeal as a hub for industrial investment, both domestically and internationally. The move is seen as a strategic push to uplift the province’s economic landscape, drive innovation, and support sustainable industrial growth.
