LAHORE: (Web Desk) In response to the rising temperatures across the province, the School Education Department of Punjab has issued an urgent advisory to both government and private schools.

It emphasises the need to ensure safety of the students amid the intensifying heatwave.

As per the directives, the schools will ensure the maintaining of a safe, cool, and comfortable environment for students during extreme weather conditions. Schools have been instructed to take immediate and proactive steps to safeguard the health and well-being of students and staff.

Key measures include the provision of clean, cold drinking water in every classroom, with schools encouraged to ensure that students consume 8 to 10 glasses of water daily to stay adequately hydrated.

The advisory also instructs schools to conduct classes in well-ventilated rooms and utilize cooling devices such as fans and air coolers to maintain airflow and reduce heat stress in classrooms.

To minimize exposure to extreme heat, schools have been advised to restrict outdoor activities, especially during peak heat hours. “Students should remain indoors during the hottest parts of the day to avoid unnecessary health risks,” the spokesperson added.

“Access to clean and cool drinking water is vital in these extreme conditions. We urge schools to closely monitor water availability and encourage regular hydration,” said a spokesperson for the department.

Recognizing the potential dangers of heat-related illnesses, the department has further urged schools to raise awareness among students and teachers about the symptoms of heatstroke and the steps needed to prevent it. Schools must also be equipped with first aid kits, and staff should be trained to respond promptly to heat-related emergencies.

“Heatstroke can be a serious medical emergency. It is crucial that school staff are prepared to act quickly and provide proper care when required,” the spokesperson emphasized.
