(Web Desk): The Punjab government has approved digital vehicle registration directly linked to owners ID card.

The approved amendment aims to make the vehicle registration and ownership system more efficient, transparent, and secure. The reforms, initiated under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, to modernize how vehicles are registered, owned and identified across the province.

Under the new system, the number plate of the vehicle will be directly connected to the identity of the owner rather than the vehicle. This will help ensure that each number plate is associated with the original owner s record, which will prevent fraudulent sales and spurious transfers.

Apart from this, the vehicle registration database will also be integrated into NADRA s system, making all the data regarding vehicles and their owners available on one platform. Through this integration, law enforcement agencies like the police, excise department, and traffic police will be able to check ownership as well as vehicle details rapidly and accurately.

The electronic vehicle registration will help curb forgery and fraud in car sales and make ownership transfers quicker, safer, and paperless. It will also allow for real-time tracking in the event of theft or criminal use, abolishing the need for citizens to travel to various government offices.

Referencing the reform as "a giant leap towards a transparent, secure, and digital system," Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz underscored that the Punjab government is determined to bring in contemporary digital reforms that facilitate easier access to public services and reduce corruption.
