Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan heard the case filed by Jamshed Dasti challenging his disqualification. In the petition, Dasti claimed that the Election Commission of Pakistan had no legal grounds and was unjustly barring him from contesting elections.
After the initial hearing, the court suspended the by-election schedule and issued notices to the ECP, Attorney General, and other parties, demanding explanations.
Dasti maintained that his disqualification was politically motivated and not supported by the law. The court agreed to examine the matter further and postponed the next hearing to a later date.
Previously, the Election Commission of Pakistan had announced the schedule for the by-election in NA-175 following Dasti’s disqualification. But now, that process is on hold until the court gives its final decision.
Meanwhile, PTI supporters and political circles are calling this a major legal victory for the party, suggesting a possible comeback for Jamshed Dasti and a shift in the political dynamics of the region.
This ruling doesn’t just pause the election — it injects new energy into PTI’s political narrative. The court’s willingness to hear Dasti’s plea indicates that disqualification decisions may face serious legal scrutiny ahead of upcoming elections.
