NADRA unveils special lifetime ID cards
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The federal government is set to introduce special lifetime identity cards.

The government has approved amendments to the National Identity Card Act of 2002. The purpose of the amendment is to improve accessibility and recognition for individuals with disabilities and organ donors in Pakistan.

National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) spokesperson said that the new identity cards will be issued in accordance with the upcoming changes.

Under the amended law, people with disabilities will receive specialized, lifetime-valid identity cards. These cards will feature a unique wheelchair symbol to highlight their status.

Disabled children will also have the same symbol on their ID cards, whether they have a formal or temporary card, making it easier for them to be identified and access services.

Additionally, citizens who have voluntarily registered as organ donors will be issued lifetime identity cards with both the wheelchair symbol and the organ donor emblem. To qualify, individuals must first register with the appropriate donor registration agencies.

These updated cards will play a crucial role in ensuring that individuals with disabilities and organ donors are recognized and included in various social services and healthcare programs.

A dual-status card will also be available for those who are both disabled and organ donors, displaying both symbols to improve their visibility across public and private sectors.

These changes are being implemented under Section 44 of the NADRA Ordinance, 2000, and will take effect once officially notified in the Gazette of Pakistan.
