In a major push toward green urban mobility, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif will inaugurate Sargodha’s first electric bus service this Friday, introducing a cleaner and more sustainable mode of public transport in the region.
According to Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Secretary Muhammad Tahir, a fleet of 48 electric buses will be deployed across all tehsils of Sargodha.
This project falls under the Punjab government s broader campaign to modernize the public transportation system and reduce environmental pollution through green energy solutions.
To ensure smooth operations, the city has already established five special bus stops and terminals at the General Bus Stand. The deployment plan includes:
- 10 buses each for Bhera, Bhalwal, Kotmomin, and Shahpur
- 9 buses for the Sillanwali–Sargodha route
Each bus is scheduled to run every hour, promising consistent and reliable service for commuters.

Additionally, electric charging stations have been installed along the designated routes, allowing for seamless operation of the buses without interruption.
The RTA secretary highlighted that this initiative will not only provide affordable and accessible transportation but will also help in reducing air pollution and carbon emissions, aligning with the province’s push for cleaner and greener cities.
This electric bus project is part of the Punjab government s wider efforts to modernize infrastructure, reduce fuel consumption, and promote environmentally responsible mobility solutions across the province.
