(Web Desk): A 4.8 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Punjab, including Multan, early Tuesday, marking the second tremor in the region this month.

An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale shook several cities in Punjab, including Multan, early on Tuesday morning.

The tremors were confirmed by the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), which received reports from districts across the province.

According to PDMA, the epicenter of the earthquake was 126 kilometers west of Multan, at a depth of 55 kilometers.

Emergency teams have been deployed to inspect buildings and assess any damage.

The PDMA Provincial Control Room and all District Emergency Operation Centers are now on 24/7 alert.

 Where Citizens Can Report Damage:

If you felt the quake or noticed any damage, you can call the PDMA helpline at 1129 to report it. Authorities are asking citizens to stay alert but avoid panic.

Second Earthquake in Punjab This Month

This is the second earthquake to hit Punjab in September. The earlier one, on September 4, was much stronger, a 5.9 magnitude quake, and was felt in Punjab, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

That tremor came from Afghanistan s Hindu Kush region and caused panic in many cities, including Peshawar, Swat, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad.

Pakistan lies in an earthquake-prone region due to its proximity to major fault lines.

The recent two quakes in just 12 days highlight the importance of preparedness and fast emergency response.

While today’s quake was moderate, the depth and location meant tremors were widely felt but didn’t cause major damage.

However, repeated tremors serve as a warning for better building inspections, public awareness, and disaster readiness in both urban and rural areas.

The PDMA’s swift response and open helpline (1129) show progress in disaster communication, but more public drills and education may be needed in the long term.
