(Web Desk): The much-anticipated Lahore Yellow Line project remains stalled despite 2025 deadline.

According to official sources, Lahore Yellow Line project was supposed to begin in August 2025, but no practical steps have been taken so far. The project has not yet been presented before the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for formal approval, delaying its progress even further.

The Punjab government has not released any official plan or update regarding the Yellow Line project development. Moreover, no decision has been reached on whether the project will adopt the tram system or the Bus Rapid Transit (ART) model proposed by the Chinese company NORINCO.

Despite earlier feasibility studies, construction plans, and consultations with international engineering firms, the initiative remains confined to paperwork. The proposed ART route was to run from Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura along Canal Road, but no groundwork has commenced.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had instructed that the Lahore Yellow Line be completed by May 2026. However, the lack of tangible progress now makes that timeline seem increasingly unrealistic.

Urban planning experts warn that continued delays could push Lahore’s mass transit expansion years behind schedule. Once again, the dream of giving the city another advanced transport system has been left unfulfilled.
