
The officials said this is the first time ostrich eggs have been successfully hatched in the zoo. Through incubation, low humidity and tight control of the environment were required for this process.
For ostrich embryo development, a special arrangement was arranged inside the facility so that the required key variables for the embryo development were provided, and it was employed for regulating temperature as well.

Zookeepers and the veterinary team are monitoring the ostrich chicks 24/7. The initial stages of care involve providing them with the right environment to foster healthy development and to avoid accidents, they are being put on rubber mats. In good health, the chicks under close supervision are reported to be doing well. Rearing ostriches became popular among Punjab s private sector years ago but the majority of farms since then have shut down due to operational and financial challenges. The breakthrough has been welcomed by officials as a major milestone in Pakistan s conservation campaign.
Officials are optimistic that the success of the zoo will inject fresh interest in sustainable wildlife management and open up a new model for well-planned reproduction.
Lahore Safari Zoo is allowing visitors to view the chicks to generate interest. Through officials, the project is said to make a contribution to enhancing public awareness on ethical captive breeding and species conservation.
