KARACHI (Web Desk): Light tremors were experienced across several areas of Karachi late Monday night, marking the city’s second earthquake incident in as many days.

A mild earthquake measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale struck Karachi in the early hours of Tuesday, marking the second such tremor in just three days. According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC), the quake hit at 1:06 a.m., with its epicenter near Gadap Town on the city’s outskirts and a shallow depth of 12 kilometers.

Residents in neighbourhoods including Khokhrapar, Malir, Landhi, Quaidabad, Future Mor, Gul Ahmed, and Hospital Chowrangi reported feeling the tremors. Although the quake lasted only a few seconds, it was strong enough to rouse people from their sleep, sending many rushing outdoors in fear. Fortunately, no injuries or property damage have been reported.

This seismic event follows a similar incident on Saturday, when a 3.6 magnitude quake shook the city. That tremor, slightly stronger than the latest one, had a depth of 10 kilometers and was centred near Quaidabad. The back-to-back quakes have stirred concerns among residents and renewed attention on the city’s earthquake preparedness.

Though Karachi lies near active tectonic zones, it typically experiences fewer earthquakes than northern Pakistan. However, seismologists continue to warn of the city’s heightened risk due to unchecked urban development and a lack of adequate disaster response infrastructure. Citizens are advised to remain alert and familiarize themselves with safety protocols in the event of future tremors.
