LAHORE (Web Desk): Pakistan marks its Independence Day every year on 14 August with nationwide festivities and events.

Although there is no official announcement or notification in regards to there being a holiday on 14 August or not, 14 August typically calls for a province-wide holiday. Usually, the holiday applies to banks, courts, public-facing services, and generally all government offices, public institutions will remain closed.

Celebrations such as flag-hoisting ceremonies, patriotic parades, and various cultural events are typically hosted on Independence Day. Public gatherings are expected to be lively and filled with joy, mainly to ensure peaceful observations throughout the day, law enforcement agencies are instructed to implement special security arrangements.

It is worth mentioning that a 14-day Independence Day celebration under the theme “Marke eHaq” has been organized by the Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah. The celebration will run from August 1 to 14. This great commemoration of Independence only pertains to the Sindh province and therefore does not affect the national holiday status of August 14. Various events and demonstrations of national unity are to be displayed on this extended celebration.

Usually, the government emphasizes that all departments must ensure compliance with the holiday schedule and disseminate the information across their respective institutions.

14 August is a reminder for citizens across Pakistan about the struggles and sacrifices that their predecessors gave before them for the freedom of future generations, and it is celebrated with national unity, pride, and respect of our nation.
