In an exclusive interview with The Economist, Director General Inter‑Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry called the reports about Field Marshal Asim Munir’s possible presidency “completely baseless.”
The speculation emerged after the recent “Battle of Truth” (Ma’raka‑e‑Haq), but the DG ISPR rejected all political analyses suggesting such a move.
When asked how Pakistan would respond to any Indian military action, the DG ISPR issued a stern warning, stating: “This time we will start from the east of India, and it will begin with striking deep inside Indian territory. India needs to understand that we can hit them anywhere.”

DG ISPR also reaffirmed that the Pakistan Army remains committed to defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity at all costs.
ISPR recent statement aligns with earlier remarks from Premier Shehbaz Sharif, who had categorically denied any such development. Similarly, PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui had clarified that neither Nawaz Sharif nor his party had discussed the idea of making the Field Marshal president.
Last month, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also voiced his opinion, stating on social media site X that "neither a proposal nor a discussion for the president to resign or the COAS to assume that office has been made." He implied that people circulating these rumors are a part of a "nefarious campaign" against President Asif Ali Zardari and other high-ranking state officials.
