In a violent attack in Bannu district, militants targeted a security forces convoy during an intelligence-based operation, resulting in the martyrdom of three personnel, including Lieutenant Colonel Shehzada Gul Faraz, while five attackers were killed in a swift counter-operation.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the attack occurred when security forces were conducting an operation based on intelligence about the presence of a suicide bomber and other militants. The group, described as operating under foreign support, attempted to strike the convoy with a vehicle loaded with explosives. However, forces successfully prevented the suicide bomber from causing greater destruction.
Officials confirmed that the timely response saved the city of Bannu from a major disaster. During the exchange, Lieutenant Colonel Shehzada Gul Faraz and Sepoy Karamat Shah embraced martyrdom as militants detonated explosives near their vehicle. Security forces retaliated immediately, eliminating five militants on the spot.

The military statement emphasized that militant groups continue to attempt destabilizing activities even during the holy month of ramazan. Authorities reiterated that operations against terrorism under the framework of “Azm-e-Istihkam” will continue without discrimination and with full force.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack, expressing grief over the martyrdom of the officers and praising security forces for eliminating the attackers. He said terrorism has no religion and pledged continued national support for the armed forces in eradicating extremism from the country.
