ISLAMABAD: (Suno News) While pronouncing the judgement in the Iddat case on Saturday, a district and sessions court in Islamabad acquitted former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi and issued their release order.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka overturned the conviction of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the case, setting their sentences aside.

It is to be noted here that the trial court awarded seven-year imprisonment each to Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi in the Iddat case on February 23, 2024, while pronouncing the verdict on the plea of Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband Khawar Maneka.

Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi filed appeals against their sentences. The then Judge Shah Rukh Arjumand reserved the verdict in the case, but he recused himself from pronouncing the judgement.

The judge also wrote a letter to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to transfer the case to another court.

In the letter, he said that the appeals of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi had been fixed for hearing and a verdict on those appeals was to be pronounced on May 29, but complainant Khawar Maneka had expressed no confidence in him.

He said that Khawar Maneka’s plea of no confidence had earlier been disposed of, but after he expressed his no confidence in him again, it would be inappropriate to pronounce the verdict.

“Therefore, the IHC is requested to transfer the case to another court,” he had added.
