Punjab University hosts policy seminar on P/CVE best practices

(Web Desk): Punjab University hosted a multi-stakeholder seminar to share best practices and strengthen collaboration on preventing and countering violent extremism.

The University of the Punjab held a Policy Network Seminar on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (P/CVE) on November 12. ISCS organized the event with the Punjab Probation and Parole Service. The session brought together policymakers, academics, journalists, and peace experts.

The seminar opened with a Quran recitation and the national anthem. Prof. Dr. Farhan Naveed Yousaf welcomed participants. He stressed the need for evidence-based research to support national P/CVE efforts.

DG PP&PS Muhammad Shahid Iqbal outlined the goals of the national P/CVE policy. He highlighted rehabilitation and reintegration as core components.

UNODC’s Prof. Syed Hussain Haider explained the global foundations of PVE and CVE. He linked international lessons to Pakistan’s context.

Syed Ahmad Khawar Shehzad from the Punjab Center of Excellence on CVE shared provincial achievements. He emphasized institutional coordination and capacity building.

Academic expert Shanti Kumar Hettiarachchi discussed religion’s role in countering violent extremism. He stressed interfaith dialogue and inclusive practices.

Journalist Salman Abid spoke on media’s responsibility in shaping positive narratives. He urged ethical communication to counter extremist messaging.

Diep Saeeda highlighted civil society networks and community resilience. She called for stronger partnerships between government, academia, and social organizations.

A panel discussion, moderated by Ms. Ayesha Allah Ditta, allowed participants to exchange ideas. They discussed opportunities for joint peacebuilding initiatives.

Prof. Dr. Iram Khalid delivered the closing remarks. She praised ISCS and PP&PS for promoting academic–government collaboration. She said such partnerships are vital for long-term P/CVE strategies.

The event ended with shield presentations, a group photo, and a networking tea.
