The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has approved the recruitment of more than 10,000 contract primary school teachers to address persistent staff shortages in government schools across the province.
Under the new policy, teachers will be selected strictly through the talent pool and appointed via Parent Teacher Councils (PTCs) under a prescribed mechanism. Summer zone schools will hire teachers for five months, from January 16 to May 31, while winter zone schools will appoint them for four months, from March 1 to June 30.
In the settled districts, a total of 5,845 teachers will be recruited—2,910 for boys’ schools and 2,935 for girls’ schools. Major districts include Abbottabad, Lakki Marwat, Mansehra, Upper Dir, Peshawar, and Swat, among others. The district-wise hiring plan ensures equitable distribution based on local needs.
Meanwhile, in the merged districts, 4,229 teachers will be hired. Boys’ schools will see recruitment in Khyber, Kurram, Kohat, North Waziristan, and other areas, while girls’ schools will receive teachers in Khyber, Mohmand, North Waziristan, Orakzai, and South Waziristan subdivisions.

Officials said the recruitment drive aims to improve teaching quality and ensure that every primary school has adequate staff. The process will follow strict merit-based selection, with appointments managed locally through PTCs to ensure transparency and efficiency.
The government emphasized that this initiative is part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening education in KP, particularly in remote and previously under-served districts.
