LAHORE (Web Desk): The National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) has released the results of the National Registration Examination (NRE), showing that only a little over 20 percent of foreign medical and dental graduates passed the exam.

The examination was held across Pakistan and followed the policy set by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). A total of 7,076 candidates registered, including 6,993 medical and 83 dental graduates.

Out of the registered candidates, 7,012 appeared in the exam, while 64 remained absent. Only 1,473 candidates managed to pass, highlighting the difficulty level of the test.

Among those who passed, 1,467 were medical graduates and only six were dental graduates. The medical pass rate stood at 21.17 percent, while the dental pass rate dropped sharply to 7.23 percent.

PMDC holds two NRE exams every year for foreign medical graduates. In the previous exam, more candidates appeared, and the pass rate was slightly higher at 25.26 percent, though all successful candidates were from the medical category.

The results of both examinations have been uploaded on the PMDC website. Candidates can check their status using their assigned roll numbers.

PMDC also announced that dates for the NRE Step-II clinical examination will be shared soon. Candidates who clear both steps will receive provisional registration certificates, allowing them to start house jobs in Pakistan or abroad.

The council stressed that all results were prepared strictly on merit and international standards. PMDC advised students and parents to choose only recognised and high-quality medical institutions overseas, warning that poor choices could harm careers and waste years of effort.
