(Web Desk): Karachi authorities have widened the ban on two- and four-seater rickshaws to 26 major roads across the city. The move is aimed at improving traffic flow in high-congestion areas.

In a bid to manage rising traffic congestion, Karachi’s administration has extended its ban on rickshaws, initially imposed on 20 major roads in October 2025, to 26 key arteries across the metropolis. The decision follows recommendations from Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah and was announced by Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

The expanded restrictions now cover major routes including Shahrah-e-Faisal, II Chundrigar Road, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Shershah Suri Road, Shaheed-e-Millat Road, Abdullah Haroon Road to Do Talwar, Shahrah-e-Firdousi, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Rashid Minhas Road, Mauripur Road, Shahrah-e-Pakistan, Hub River Road, Quaidabad to Landhi 89, University Road, Korangi Road from FTC to Qayyumabad, Korangi Road from Qayyumabad to Korangi Crossing, Orangi Road, Super Highway to Malir Halt, and Surjani to Sohrab Goth.

Officials said the move is designed to streamline traffic in areas that frequently experience severe gridlocks, providing relief to commuters who face long delays daily.

To complement the rickshaw ban, authorities have also implemented daytime restrictions on heavy vehicles and set a 30 km/h speed limit for heavy transport vehicles (HTVs). These steps aim to ease pressure on Karachi’s already strained road network and improve overall traffic movement.

The government said the latest order was issued in response to growing congestion and public frustration over prolonged traffic jams. Officials stressed that these measures are part of a broader effort to enhance the city’s traffic management system.
