
In two heart-wrenching incidents tied to exam stress, young students in Punjab attempted to end their lives after receiving failing results in their matriculation (10th grade) exams.
Ayesha, a 16-year-old girl in Kamalia’s Razaabad area, consumed poisonous pills after learning she had failed her exams. She was rushed to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. Due to her worsening condition, Ayesha was referred to the District Headquarters Hospital in Toba Tek Singh, where she remains in critical condition under medical supervision. Authorities and schools have been urged by the devastated family to provide better emotional support to students facing academic pressure.

In a separate incident in Pindi Bhattian, a student named Amir, son of Saif, reportedly jumped into a canal after failing his matric exams. According to eyewitnesses, Amir had been scolded for his poor performance shortly before the incident. His sandals and motorcycle were later found near the canal bank, prompting a rescue operation. As of now, his body has not been recovered.
Police have secured Amir’s belongings and launched an investigation. Efforts are being continued by rescue teams.
These heartbreaking cases highlight the immense psychological pressure many students face due to academic expectations. Parents, teachers, and institutions are being urged by mental health experts that during exam season, a more compassionate and supportive approach should be adopted.
