LAHORE (Web Desk): The Punjab government has decided to increase the number of MBBS seats in government medical colleges.

According to media reports, the Punjab government has decided to add 475 more seats for the MBBS program in public sector medical colleges. In this regard, a request has been submitted to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) for approval.

The government has proposed adding 50 seats each at Services Institute of Medical Sciences, Ameer-ud-Din Medical College, and Nishtar Medical College. Similarly, 50 additional seats have been requested for Punjab Medical College Faisalabad and Sheikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan.

In the same vein, Sahiwal Medical College and Gujranwala Medical College are proposed to receive 50 additional seats each, while 30 seats are recommended for D.G. Khan Medical College.

Furthermore, a request has been made to increase 25 seats each at King Edward Medical University, Quaid-e-Azam Medical College, and Sargodha Medical College.

The Punjab government has also requested the PMDC to add 20 seats at Khawaja Safdar Medical College Sialkot.

The report states that the Punjab government has requested these increases to take effect this year. The provincial government has based its recommendations on the ratio of beds available in government teaching hospitals.
