Ayla Majid becomes first Pakistani president of ACCA

Web Desk: Ayla Majid has shattered glass ceilings after becoming the first Pakistani and South Asian president of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Ayla is a seasoned leader in energy, sustainability, and governance, having experience of two decades in the abovementioned sectors.

She will guide over 252,000 members and 526,000 future members across 180 countries during her year-long term. This milestone is especially significant for ACCA, which has just surpassed a quarter of a million members and is celebrating its 120th anniversary.

Ayla s vision for her presidency is to transform the future of accountancy through a strategic and forward-looking approach.

She has vast experience in various sectors, including energy transition, decarbonization, and digital innovation. She has made waves as the founder and CEO of Planetive.

“The accountancy profession is dynamic and evolving, and we are working to make it an exciting, purposeful career choice, embracing sustainability and social value. I look forward to updating perceptions of the profession as technology becomes a dominant player,” she stated.

Ayla Majid is determined to elevate the status of accountancy during her presidency, highlighting the importance of promoting the accounting profession as an attractive and purposeful career choice.

She is not only the first Pakistani and South Asian president of the ACCA, but also a part of a historic trio of women leading the organisation. Majid joined Deputy President Melanie Proffitt and Vice-President Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan, marking the first time all three high-level posts are occupied by women.

Majid received praise from many sectors for her election as first Pakistani and South Asian President of ACCA.

Majid s credentials are impressive as she is a member of the World Economic Forum s Global Future Council on Energy and an Eisenhower Fellow.

She holds an MBA degree from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), an LLB (Hons) degree from the University of London, and leadership courses at Harvard, Oxford, and Princeton Universities.
