The Punjab government has approved online classes on Fridays for all schools, colleges, and universities across the province under a revised education schedule aimed at maintaining academic continuity.
The decision was announced by Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, who said the move is designed to ensure uninterrupted learning while adapting to current administrative and situational requirements.
New 4-Day Academic Week Introduced
According to an official notification issued by the Punjab Education Department, educational institutions will now operate on a four-day academic week, with Friday, Saturday, and Sunday declared holidays.
Key schedule updates include:
- Classes from Monday to Thursday
- School timings: 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM
- Friday to be conducted online across all institutions
- Applies to both public and private schools

Revised Timings for Double-Shift Schools
The notification also outlines updated timings for double-shift institutions:
- Morning shift: 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM
- Evening shift: 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM
Afternoon schools will continue classes from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM under the revised plan.
Continuity of Education Amid Changing Conditions
Officials stated that the decision aims to balance educational continuity and administrative flexibility, while ensuring minimal disruption for students, teachers, and parents.
The education minister appreciated the cooperation and patience of all stakeholders during the transition.
