According to an official release, customs authorities confiscated 234.133 tolas of gold, weighing about 2.73 kg, valued at Rs100,670,000. They also seized 30,785 tolas of silver, around 359 kg, worth Rs205,670,000.
Officials noted a sharp rise in silver smuggling cases across the country. Imports of silver remain strictly regulated by the State Bank of Pakistan and the Ministry of Commerce, making illegal inflows more tempting for smugglers.

Market experts say silver, once known as the ‘poor man’s gold’, has more than doubled in price over the past ten months. In percentage terms, silver has even outperformed gold, increasing its demand and illegal trade.
The Federal Board of Revenue said it remains fully committed to protecting the national economy. Authorities vowed to continue strict action against smuggling to prevent financial losses and market instability.
