The source also stated that the proposal regarding fare hike will be presented at the upcoming PMA meeting. The move comes amid increasing operational and maintenance costs that have placed additional pressure on the provincial transport budget.
The proposed plan recommends raising the Metro Bus fare will rise from Rs. 30 to Rs. 40, while the Orange Line Metro Train fare will increase from Rs. 45 to Rs. 50. Fares for feeder and Speedo bus routes are also expected to go up by Rs. 5. Once approved by the PMA board, the summary will be forwarded to the Chief Minister through the Transport Department for final approval.
Earlier, the Punjab government also doubled the price of the T-Cash card that is being used for mass transit travel, from Rs. 130 to Rs. 260, citing “delivery charges.”
According to the Transport Department, a delivery fee of Rs. 130 has been added to the existing card cost, which passengers must now pay when purchasing new cards.
