Many lawyers injured as PTI protesters attacked by PML-N activists
ISLAMABAD: (Suno News) A many lawyers suffered critical injuries after PTI backed candidate Shoaib Shaheen was assaulted by the activists of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) outside the office of Returning Officer NA-47 constituency Islamabad on Sunday.
The assault came a day after a petition had been filed by the PTI-supported candidate in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) challenging the results of constituency NA-47 and NA-48 respectively.
Speaking to the media outside the IHC on Satruday, Shoaib Shaheen said, “Today, I and Ali Bukhari (PTI candidate from NA-48) have filed petitions. We have requested the registrar’s office to schedule an immediate hearing. We request the chief justice of Pakistan to expedite the case since all of Islamabad knows that NA-47 is my constituency. I have the Form-45. We have won this election with a thumping majority.”
According to the results, independent candidate Raja Khuram Shehzad Nawaz won the election for NA-48 Islamabad-III by securing 69,699 votes.
However, Bukhari claims he was winning the contest according to initial results. He was later announced as the runner-up candidate after receiving 59,851 votes.
Addressing the media earlier, Shaheen slammed NA-47 results where PML-N’s Tariq Fazal Chaudhry had been declared winner.
Terming the results “injustice and oppression against the PTI”, Shaheen levelled allegations that the nomination papers were unjustly taken away, and that the Returning Officers (RO) were experts in corruption.
He claimed, “I had a lead of more than 50,000 votes, my opponents had a total of 40,000 votes polled.” However, he added, “My votes were added to Tariq’s vote list.”
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has put on hold the results of 10 National Assembly including NA-47 and 16 provincial assembly seats following injunctive (stay) orders issued by the courts.
The results of one of the 10 NA seats was challenged by PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif while the results of three other seats were challenged by PTI independent candidates who had got victory in these constituencies with a huge margin of votes.
It appears that there the nation could face a delay the formation of the next government.
